Cousinade
In September 2025, Chefetz and his mother traveled to Provence to take part in a Cousinade: a French term for a festive, multi-generational family gathering intended for acquaintance and the reestablishment of ties. In this setting, the potential for an extended family was revealed; however, so too were gaps in language and mentality, and a distinct absence of relationships.
The work Cousinade is based on a photograph that reached Chefetz as part of dozens of images shared in a WhatsApp group created specifically for this historic encounter. Four generations of family spent four meticulously planned days together, but ironically, Chefetz missed the festive concluding event. In that final gathering, everyone dressed in white for a meal that included speeches of gratitude and farewell.
On an old tablecloth that his mother received as a gift from her mother, Chefetz painted the figures in such a way that the lace inserts both bind them together and break down the image. Through prolonged observation, he captured the subjects in a figurative style faithful to their expressions and postures. In this way, Chefetz claimed this family photograph and established it as a core memory.
