Horizon Line

In this series a straight horizon line cuts through the painting precisely at its center, dividing the image into two equal halves. The decisiveness of the line, its exact placement, and its repetition throughout the series turn it into a dominant element: one that organizes the pictorial space, establishes a fixed format and a clear set of rules, and directs attention toward the act of observation itself.

As the various landscape images are absorbed into this bisected compositional structure, the image’s fidelity to reality becomes questionable. The viewer is thus invited to release the need for an informative reading and to immerse in a state of dwelling and relaxation. The horizon line evokes a sense of infinity, pointing toward a space without an end, while simultaneously marking an encounter between two nearly opposing halves: the upper section, associated with the sky, and the lower section, associated with the earth. The quiet tension between these two zones unfolds within a simple, repetitive structure, allowing the viewer to remain with the painting without clinging to representation or narrative.
